How to blur faces on iPhone without uploading your photo

To blur faces on an iPhone or iPad, open a photo in Blurpeg, review the suggested face regions, tap faces you want to keep visible, add any missed regions, then export a new copy. Detection and editing happen on your device; the photo is not uploaded to a Blurpeg server.

Blur faces in five steps

Take or choose a photo. Use Capture for a new photo, or Library to open an existing image from Photos or Files.
Wait for local suggestions. Vectrari^™ Face finds possible face regions on the device. Suggested faces start blurred.
Review every box. Tap a suggested region to show or blur it. Check the whole image for missed faces and face-like objects.
Add anything missed. Use Add blur to place and resize a region over a missed face, name tag, address, sign or other identifying detail.
Choose Mosaic or Solid and save. Blurpeg renders a new JPEG with the selected regions applied to its pixels. Imported originals remain unchanged.

Blur one face or selected faces in a group photo

To blur just one suggested face, choose Show all, then tap that face to blur it. To conceal several people while keeping someone visible, leave the chosen regions blurred and tap the face you want to show. Add blur lets you place and resize a region when a suggestion is missing.

This workflow is for still photos. Blurpeg 1.1 does not blur faces in videos.

Using iPhone Photos or Blurpeg

On supported devices, Apple Photos offers Clean Up. Apple notes that brushing over a face may pixelate it; availability depends on the device, software and region. See Apple's Clean Up instructions and requirements.

Blurpeg provides suggested face regions you can toggle and manual regions you can resize, with Mosaic or Solid rendering. It runs on iPhone and iPad with iOS or iPadOS 17 or later. Check the selected regions and the exported copy whichever workflow you choose.

Why on-device processing matters

Some redaction tools send an image to a remote service before returning a result. Blurpeg's core photo workflow has no source-upload service. Detection and rendering run inside the app and can work while the device is offline.

Detection, not recognition: Vectrari Face returns possible face regions. It does not identify people, compare identities or create persistent face profiles.

Check before you share

Automated detection can miss a face or suggest a face-like object. Review the full image, including edges, reflections, screens and small background faces. Blurring a face also does not remove names, uniforms, locations or other contextual clues.
