How to blur faces on Mac without uploading your photo
Blurpeg for Desktop lets you open a still photo, review possible faces and export a redacted copy using your Mac. You need an Apple silicon Mac running macOS 15 or later. Processing happens on your Mac without uploading the photo to Blurpeg.
Open a photo and export a copy on Mac
- Choose your source. In Photos & files, use Choose from Files to open an image from a folder, or Choose from Photos to select one from your photo library.
- Review the suggested regions. Wait for face detection, then click a region to change whether that face stays visible. Check for missed faces and unwanted suggestions.
- Add manual protection. Choose Add blur or Add area, depending on your style. Draw a region over a missed face or another identifying detail and adjust its coverage.
- Choose your protection. Select Blur, Privacy mosaic or Solid concealment. Inspect the whole image rather than relying only on the suggested boxes.
- Export to a folder. Choose Save blurred copy or Save concealed copy, then choose a filename and location in the Mac save dialog. Keep the new copy separate from your original.
These are the English labels. If your included export has been used, the app offers the optional unlimited export purchase.
Check the file you will actually share
Open the exported JPEG from the destination folder. Check the concealed regions, edges and background at a useful viewing size. Share that exported copy rather than the source image or a screenshot of the editor. Importing a photo does not change the original.
Detection and rendering happen locally. A source stored only in iCloud or another cloud service may first need to download, and your chosen destination may sync according to that service's settings.
Keep selected faces visible
Click a suggested face region to toggle it. To start with one face, choose Show all and select the face you want to conceal. Add a manual region for anything detection missed.
Photos, documents and platform purchases
This guide covers still photos. PDF redaction is a separate manual workflow: review each page and place the regions yourself. Blurpeg does not provide video face blurring.
Blurpeg for Desktop is the Mac app. An iPhone or iPad unlimited purchase does not unlock Mac exports; use the Mac app's purchase and restore options for Mac access.
Choose the protection that fits the detail
Blur obscures detail while retaining broad colours. Privacy mosaic replaces the selected pixels with a fixed pattern, and Solid concealment replaces them with a solid colour. Check that the region covers the entire detail you mean to hide, including its edges.
Face detection can miss people or suggest face-like objects. Check background faces, reflections, screens, names, uniforms and location clues. Redaction does not replace consent or your decision about whether a photo should be shared.
What is included?
Download and edit for free. Your first successful photo or complete-PDF export is included. Editing remains available afterward; an optional one-time in-app purchase unlocks further unlimited exports. Mac, iPhone/iPad and Android purchases are separate. Your store shows the applicable price before purchase.
